his
antique French silver folding lorgnette or “
face-
à
-main
” has a handle embellished with
guillochis
work. Each part bears the French “Boar’s Head” on each side, the hallmark used in Paris since 1838 for small items and indicating a silver content between 800 and 1000. It also bears the maker’s mark consisting of the initials “S.L.” surrounding the image of a candelabra, the mark of the
Société
des
Lunetiers
, eyeglass makers in Paris, located in the rue
Pastourelle
starting in 1849. This piece is in good condition. The lenses are missing.. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
